WHAT ARE PSYCHOMETRIC TESTS?

Academic success either from an MBA, postgraduate or undergraduate course is no longer taken as evidence of high ability. Due to variability in standards across academic institutions and high levels of competition, organisation’s can afford to be choosy. In order to differentiate between the top candidates and the mediocre ones, they are increasingly resorting to the use of ability tests. Ability tests have been shown through research to be far better predictors of future job performance compared with academic performance.

The most popular ability tests are numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning, critical thinking, diagrammatic reasoning and problem solving tests. These are administered increasingly online, although paper and pencil tests are also used.

These are used in a variety of ways such as sifting out candidates at the 1st stage of an assessment process or used as part of an assessment day in combination with a number of other tests and exercises.

Performance on certain styles of ability tests are dependent to a certain degree upon skills and knowledge retained from past educational ventures, practice and preparation.

If you decide to incorporate psychometric tests into your coaching session, you will be sent online links to complete those you have chosen. The results of these are incorporated into the coaching session and used in accordance with the coaching service you have opted for. A secondary benefit is the chance to practice real psychometric tests currently used in organisations around the world.
